There was something especially telling in the answer of not anymore, and Baz wondered what he had been plotting. If he'd been plotting anything at all or if he was just being sarcastic. People buried bodies in the woods or hatched plans to take over the world. The boy didn't look particularly like he'd been doing either of those things but looks could be deceiving.
Before he answered, he took a breath. There was more than just the scent of the magic in this place. There was the scent of the magic in the other boy. It was relatively subtle right now but it was still there enough for Baz to detect it. he could hear his heart beating, too- he was the only one of them here with a pulse.]
I followed my nose.
[It was an honest enough answer, something he didn't feel like he needed to lie about considering how chock full of magic this place was.]
Where are we?
[And for the love of all that was good and decent in the world, the answer had better not be 'Virginia' or 'the woods'.]

He didn't know, and it wasn't precisely his style to just ask.
The dark-haired young man doesn't seem quite so inhibited, however. Ronan could just not answer, but it seems rather after the fact when he's already standing here. He doesn't tell him what it is, because that's complicated, and he doesn't know just yet how much he wants to give away about himself.]
Its name is Lindenmere.
[There's something off in the way that he says it. He says it the way you say my friend's name is Adam, not like the name of a place. There's a pause, and he seems to consider something, rolling it over before looking at him, his gaze almost overly intent.]
It doesn't know you. You should say hello- this place doesn't usually like strangers.
[Which yes, could just be a weird way of trying to get the boy to say his name, but Ronan is clearly rather serious about it. He says it almost like a warning, like he isn't the dangerous thing here. He also doesn't hold himself like someone who thinks they're in danger, though. But maybe it's just because he isn't a stranger.
There's a faint caw from just above the trees- like there's a raven nearby.]

He considered the suggestion for a moment, looking around like he expected to see someone or something there besides the two of them. He didn't smell or hear anything, but it wouldn't be the first time he'd missed something. If he hadn't been acutely aware of how magical this place was, he would've scoffed at the idea of saying hello to it.
Still, he took a deep breath, held it for a moment, and tried not to look like he felt awkward (he did, but he didn't want to let on that he did).]
Hello, Lindenmere. [He didn't suppose an American forest would have heard of his family name, so he didn't bother with a proper introduction.] My name is Basil.
[His gaze flickered back to the other boy.]
You can call me Baz. Whatever happened here, I felt it from London.

There's a whisper among the leaves, a sound that shifts from the murmur of a breeze through the foliage to what sounds like words spoken in Latin. A greeting, permission to stay. Baz is likely adept enough in the language to realize its pronunciation is oddly in line with modern renditions of Classical Latin. So not a lost dryad from Ancient Rome- probably.
Ronan shrugs his shoulders, but he looks- somewhat uneasy.]
From London? You have got to be fucking kidding me.
[Ronan hoped he was, even if the fact that Basil had found this place gave a certain weight to his words. He couldn't think why he'd lie about coming from London, either. He didn't seem like Declan- like he lied just because he was breathing. Besides, Basil sure does sound like a name that someone from the UK would have. And the fact that he outright says it this time- I felt it- it makes Ronan a little less self-conscious about admitting that he's something impossible too. Magic.]
I.. took this place from my dreams. A few days ago, give or take- time gets weird in here.
[He just hoped that it was just Basil that had felt it. That he wasn't about to have all the members of the magical black market that his older brother had been trying to keep him safe from crawling down on top of him. On the plus side, if he was- at least none of his friends were here to get hurt, at least Matthew was still safe in DC. He was probably still being reckless, but Ronan was almost always reckless.]
I'm Ronan.
